About Peaceful Gains newsletters

We strive to create the best financial advisory newsletters possible. Each one of our newsletters clearly and unambiguously states our recommendation for how to invest your money. We tell you the names and symbols of the investments as well as the percent of your funds that we recommend investing in each.

Determining how much money to put into each investment, often called money management, is a non-trivial part of investing. Many newsletters simply give you a long list of investments that they consider to be good, but you are left on your own to try to figure out how to distribute your money among these investments. By contrast, we tell you exactly what to do.

We currently publish two newsletters, one for ETF's and one for the TSP.

Which letter to pick?

Our ETF newsletter is appropriate for anyone with a brokerage account. It doesn't matter what kind of an account you have — whether it's a regular account or an IRA account, as long as you can trade stocks, you can use this newsletter.

Our TSP is appropriate for participants in the Thrift Savings Plan, which is the retirement plan for US federal employees and members of the uniformed services. It can also be used by participants in similar retirement savings plans or by investors with a brokerage account. However, investors with a brokerage account should consider our ETF newsletter, since the funds within the TSP only cover four different market sectors.

Receiving our newsletters

We send out our newsletters by email. Some email programs might erroneously place emails from us into your spam folder. Depending on the program that you are using, this folder might be called "Spam", "Bulk", "Junk E-mail", or "Junk". To prevent our emails from going into this folder, you should instruct your email program that our emails are not spam. One way of doing this that works with many email programs is simply to add our email address () to your address book (which could also be called "Contacts" or "Contact List"). After you receive and open your first email from us, in some email programs you might be able to click "Mark as safe" next to our email address in the email header.

The latest issue of each newsletter is available in the member area of our website. After you first sign up, log into the member area to view this latest issue.

The newsletters are typically emailed as follows:

Each newsletter contains just two allocations — Conservative and Balanced. The Balanced allocation has a higher expected return as well as a higher risk.

For each allocation, the newsletters tells you exactly what percent of the money should be put into each investment. You should put the specified percent of the money into each investment. Specifically, do the following.

ETF newsletter. Sell the ETF's that you currently have in your account and buy the ETF's recommended in the current letter. Make sure the percent of your money in each investment matches as closely as possible the recommended percent.

TSP newsletter. Log into the TSP website and do both of the following to match the new recommendations:

  1. request an interfund transfer; and
  2. update the contribution allocation.

The software that we use to send our newsletters is designed to prevent unwanted emails. Thus, one of the features of the software is that it allows you to easily unsubscribe from all emails from us. You can unsubscribe by either clicking a link at the bottom of our emails or from the member page. Please do not do this. If you do, you will no longer receive our newsletters. If you think that you might have accidentally unsubscribed yourself from our newsletters, please go back to the member page and make sure that there is a check mark next to the appropriate newsletter while "Unsubscribe from all e-mail messages" is not checked. After you change your subscription options, be sure to click the "Update subscriptions" button.
